Just wrecked my 97 D1.... looking for D2 to replace. Curious about finding a good tire for 18 inch wheels. Don't want to break the bank on buying tires. Any help would be great.

Depends what your bank is. I run 285/65/18 bfg AT's as my road/light offroading tire. big, wide, great traction. great in snow. fit nicely with 3" lift. but new rims and tires wouldhave been cheaper, but not as cool. they cost me $211 each plus mounting. They have a warranty though, which came in handy when my valve stem somehow got loose.

heres a poser driveway pic so you cn see the tires

that's a damn nice looking Disco, other than being too clean.

There are a couple advantages to slightly larger rim when getting into tyres that tall- less sidewall flex for on-road cornering... off camber while aired down, less change of popping the bead.

O.K. two adavantages to big rims. But, If you put a smaller profile tire on a rover with a 3" lift to help its on road proformance thats like buying a football bat. And while your point about the off camber is correct the many ture advantages of big sidewalls by far out number that one disadvantage. Look I'm not trying to sell little 15" rims to everyone in the age of BIG rims but don't dispute the fact that it is not the best way to get top proformance from your rig off road. If you want to sacrifice proformance for looks thats up to you but don't fool yourself into thinkin' its better in the dirt. On the road YES... but who really cares about that!

I like the 18's, they came with my truck, i didnt upgrade to them. Yes more sidewall is better for offroad, although i have aired the AT's down to 22 psi and they work great.

these work better though, but the on road handling sucks ass to put it nicely.

LostinBoston, I'm curious

Are you running stock gearing and axles with those 285's?

I have a new 04 D2 waiting to be built up. My plan is to make the 04 my daily driver while doing research on available suspension, body armor, upgrades, etc. I don't plan on modifying the 04 piece mail. I want to gather all the parts, do the install in a short period of time and once satisfied with my modified D2, I would then sell my D1.

GBR HD axles, 4.10 gears, detroit/tt etc etc etc. all the goodies. I ran stock axles and gears for a while (even with the detroit :D )but upgraded when i put in the 4.10 and got the swampers.
