in from CT.. im in milford, about equi-distant between you and NYC. the wheeling scene here isnt so hot. there used to be some good trails up rte 9 thru durham and into the middletown area, but most have been closed for one reason or another. you can still get in, if having your rig impounded isnt a deterant to you. Im sure you can probably find some decent trails in your area along the river , or cross the river into hadlyme, north lyme, salem areas. alot of it is state forest, which driving in is generally frowned upon, but not neccesarily illegal. The other option is head toward the MA border and theres some good stuff up there, and then keep going into VT and its wide open. CT trails are usually kept under wraps for the fear of everyone becoming aware of the "1 great trail" and it being flooded with every 4x4 in the state. also try a search for west CT rover club. they may be defunct now, but if you are looking for a "group" they might be a good bet. good luck.

Are you still baking down there in AZ? I wanted to make it down there last summer but plans went awry and i ran out of time. How have you been? you still driving that big ol ice cream truck of a discovery? ;)

I had to crash that car, but it's coming back together. Haven't driven the Disco since February. Yes, still baking in AZ, although the weather finally broke last week. Might even rain this week. Got divorced last November, not much else new here, just working my ass off and longing to get back into the mtns...

divorced huh? well.. i guess im one step closer to that now too. thats alright... monogamy isnt natural anyway.. embrace the freedom. i hear you on the mtns.. after spending last summer out west im still confused as to why i came back to CT. connections and money i guess. Im actually looking into a couple of buisness opportunities in moab, its still pretty wide open out there and coming from the northeast the prop values (commercial and residential) are way to reasonable to not look twice at. we had a blast out there, the only problem is that new wife wants to know "where will i go shopping?" sometimes you cant win..

Oh, thats easy. You would not want to actually live in Moab. Moab is nice and all, but the environment is way too harsh for most.

Salt Lake is the place to be. You have great skiing, good shopping, and if your wife needs to excape back home the airport is a major hub for Delta. To boot we are only 3.5 Rover hours from Moab (3 normal car hours) :D

Sounds good to me. How's the IT industry out there in SLC?

Still trying to figure out how I ended up in Richmond from San Diego.

BTW, there are some trails in Methuen, MA. A place everyone dubbed "Pie Hill" criss-crossing around a bunch of power lines. Good for dirtbiking and quads too.

Also, there are some nice sand dunes/pits just north of Concord, NH off of I95. Kind of an oddity because its in the middle of the forest. I'll try to get more info.

i hear that curtis.. its funny when you spend a week in a place and decide "yeah, i could defintely live here." until you live there and then its "what the hell was i thinking?" as a resort destination i really think its in the pre-growth stages. the atmosphere in that town was by far the most electric id been to, and we hit 41 of the 50 states on that trip. I had friends move out to SLC from CT and they were back within 8 months yaking about how strange the people were and how different the culture is. Are you native to SLC.. what do you think about that? Ultimately SLC seems like it would be a great destination.. close to moab, jackson hole, rockies, etc..

my apologies to ctsailor as the this thread is now a solid 2500 miles from CT

About as crappy as it is everywhere else. If you are talented and experienced you can find a job quickly. If not, it is a great place to retire :D

No - I am from Texas. Born and bred. Not one gram of Mormon in me. While there are a few cultural differnces, it is a great community to live in with more diversity than one might expect. Salt Lake proper is very metropolital and probably has more out of staters than natives. The natives that do live here tend to be very friendly and accepting. This is dependent on where you live in town, but in any case the benefits outweigh the difficulties.

Hey that's great about the CT folks here. I have checked out the West CT Land Rover Club but there seems to be not much happening there. Up here in Essex there are quite a few spots to go off road. As a mater of fact theres a "public road" (it's on the map as a road but hasen't been maintained since cars were invented) behind my house that's some what a challage. I've only explored a mile or so. If anyone would like to get together sometime let me know.
