Hello all lawyers,

Looking for advice on who I should try to work for:

I have call back interviews at the following places:

All the top philly firms

All the firms in Wilmington

A few other places, Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr, Steptoe and Johnson, Shearman and Sterling, Dewey Ballantine, Clifford Chance, Calwalader etc.

I am leaning toward the Skadden office in Wilmington as my first choice, any input, seems like a tough offer to get though? Not particularly keen about moving, I like DC alyssa likes NYC, but she dislikes DC and I dislike NYC.

Got rejections from S&C and Morgan Lewis which I am bummed about but otherwise I have done well with staying in the process.

Anyone from a top 100 firm want to give me a summer associate gig?

I like corporate, securities, bankruptcy type work but have no real preference.

Ron

Ron - while I can't offer any advice about any of those firms, I can point one thing out... D.C.'s traffic situation is bad, second only to L.A.'s. Over the next 5 years, it is projected to be the worst in the nation.

John Lee,

Summer deal, I am only a 2L.

I know they are all sweat shops. That I am ok with. I would prefer someplace that has some decent working conditions while I am toiling away 80+ hours a week.

Steve, thanks for the tip on DC traffic. The hour I spent on New York Ave getting the parkway brought that home. As far as the firms I visited seemed MUCH nicer than the NYC firms I interviewed with, but this is still a pretty small sample of firms so maybe some of the other NYC firms I will fall in love with. Overall though this is why I am leaning toward Skadden in Wilmingtn is the whole moving/traffic/house thing. You get NYC pay all the way through partner, cheap living, and a practice that has so much work they poach associates from other offices. The guy who started it even beat David Boies! They pretty much can print money down there. I have an offer from a top Philly firm and a top Wilmington firm now, both of which I really liked, but my Skadden call back has not occurred yet, nor has some more NYC interviews and I still am up in the air so any help is appreciated.

You can email if you do not want to post evilfij at yahoo dott com

Thanks!

Ron

My only advice would be to ask the attorneys in your area which firms have a good work environment. Don't go with a firm strictly from your summer experience. All firms wine and dine their summers and treat them with kid gloves. Once the summers are hired as associates, life is over.
