Hey All!

I had a new alternator put on last week. Who knows if that matters. Today my wife was driving it, running fine. Came back out after 10 minutes and the thing would restart but would not reach rpm's above about 700 then cut off. It smelled like it was running rich. I tried starting it, then pushing the accelerator, and that made no difference (like I had never even stepped on the gas), then would rough idle for about 30 seconds then shut off. All belts are in place, fluids look OK too. HELP! Think fuel filter? Or maybe some sensor? Cat Converter?

Never a dull moment with these things.

Thanks fellow rover nuts!

Check near the alt and see if something wasn't put back on correctly and finally fell off. electrical connection etc. check vacuum advance hose. Try the fuel filter probably needs one anyway and they are cheap. With the rich smell could be a sensor is disconnected and giving no reading to the ecu.

Cheers Andy 95 d1 :)

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago on my '96. Turned out to be a bad IAC (Stepper Motor)

I cleaned it, but even so, it was bad and needed replacement. Made a world of difference:D The thing drives like new again.
