I just got my front and rear pads replaced. They were down to nothing at 20,000 Km. It was a $500.00 bill. The bad news???? The rotors will need to be replaced (yes, REPLACED) every 2nd brake job. The min and max spacs are soooo tight that they are disposable parts.

What do you expect? The darn thing is 5500 lbs, more when you load it up! It's no difference from the Mercedes SUV's, pads and rotors are good for approx 20K miles if you drive somewhat aggresive...

Whooaa.. Thats why they call them stealerships.. lol.

On a UK board they were saying $100 in pads and a very EASY do it yourself job.

Im sorta/kinda a DIY guy but when mine needs brakes Ill get the pads and take it to my trusty indy LR shop who will probably charge me lunch or an 1/2 hour at $50 to do it.

Sucks tho about the rotors.. but rotors every two is not abnormal for a D1/2 also.

Thanks for the headsup!!

Wow that's a little steep, but the good news is that barakes are very easy to do yourself, The Disco 3 is pretty straight forward and sould be a quick and painless job to do on a weekend. Just be glad you don't have a Mercedes SL 500, it weighs 5500#s also and my budy's gets driven very hard. Those rotors are almost $300 EACH. They too get replaced every 1-2 sets of pads

Point made, but I might also point out that 20k km is only about 12.5k miles.

Can you convert to a spedo and odo in miles?

20K miles will give you a little more time!

Why replace them unless they are really shot? Just because they say you need to replace them every 2 brake changes dosen't mean they are shot. (rotors here not brake pads :) )

Besides, DIY or pay another shop to do the work and source the parts online and i'm sure your prices will go way way down.

At 20,000km they were almost at the point where they have to be replaced. Next pad replacement they will have to be replaced as no mechanic would reuse them (and I would not risk my life and my truck over a few hundred bucks). As for saving money by bypassing the dealership - I did. Pads were $60.00 less and labour was about $50.00 less. For the delay in getting in the pads (2 weeks), the lack of a courtesy car I saved a whopping 20%. I am not sure I would do it again. Although I am hoping for performance aftermarket brake parts for my next brake service. My dealer will use the performance parts as long as they meet or exceed LR specs.

Has anyone seen the "That was Easy!!" buttons you can buy from Business Depot? I want to get one and re-progam the e-prom chip so it says "That was expensive!!!!"

Your brakes should last longer than that...but, they are expensive, I can do anything on the brakes except mess with the rotors (I might after this next week, but I dont know how stuck they are and am havin my indy shop replace them on Monday) and I also stay away from calipres...its more a thing of time, I dont have time or a garage that I can use, and it sucks to be workin on it in a parking lot when its your daily driver you cant afford to have it sitting on a jack for 3 days....but unless you are having warranty work done, stay away from Land Rover dealers--you dealt with them to buy it, thats all you need to go them for, and thats all they cared about helping you with anyway, now that you own it, they are looking at the next buyer....your indy shop will work with you because you are a customer who has the ability to be coming back time and time again....
