What is nice about permethrin is you have nothing directly on your skin and you do not have to carry containers of DEET. Also, it is not just a repellent. It kills many insects.
I have used permethrin clothing last summer, where 100% DEET barely had an effect (tons of mosquitoes and flies) With only DEET, you would still get dozens of bites.
With the clothing, I would only get an odd bite here or there. My s.o. did not do as well, but bites were MUCH less than when we used DEET.
I dosed hat, L.S. shirt, pants and socks. Likely this summer I will do some light gloves as well.
