Camping spots in N. California

Alright,
We are heading out again next weekend with some friends. However, I would like to avoid a long drive. So, any ideas on good camping spots (with some wheelin' spots nearby) close to Monterey California. Definition of close= ~100 miles.

pinnacles near hollister, new idria, the indians road near carmel valley off of arroy seco, go sout up into the hills behind san luis obispo....there are lots go to a bookstore and check out some literature...
