Think my vehicle speed sensor may be checking out. Can I by pass it to see if the truck runs smoothly or must it be connected. Just replaced it less than 10k ago and don't want to just buy another one until i'm sure its the cause. Speedo keeps fluttering and spiking and engine runs rough while its happening. The odd thing is yesterday the speedo went dead for about 15 miles and engine ran fine while the speedo was dead. Thanks for any input.

yes you can just unplug it and the truck will run...but the engine will not go into closed loop and it will get really bad MPG.

plus without a speedo...a ticket may cost more then a new VSS

Thanks Muskyman,

not really worried about the cost of the new VSS. I plan on putting another one in if i isolate that this is the problem. Just hate being like the dealers and putting in new parts until the problem is fixed.

anyone else have a VSS go bad in under less than 10 k? Musky, what do you mean by engine running in 'closed loop'? Just like to gain extra knowledge from the people in the know.

thanks again everyone.
