Can I put a lift on a Disco II with ACE?

I am in the market for a Disco II. If I understand my options correctly, it's not easy to lift a vehicle with Self-Leveling Suspension (is that true?).

I got a line on a good sounding 2000 SE7 but it has ACE (Active Cornering Enhancement). Can I lift with this system? What is it exactly - just ABS with yaw?

Thanks!

ACE is an active cornering option for the D2. It is not ABS with YAW, but rather a hydraulic dampener to reduce roll in the corners. Yes you can lift an ACE / SLS equipped D2. You will have to manufacture a bracket to "trick" the SLABS unit into inflating the rear bags a bit higher. However, I recommend just switching out the airbags for coils and completely deactivating the system. To perform a search of the Dweb Tech Archives on this subject go here:

http://www.discoweb.org/forums/search.php?

Another good place to look for info and product is www.expeditionexchange.com. On that site there is a tech write-up on lifting a D2 with SLS.

Good Luck,

Paul

Frank,
I've got no SLS experience, but I have had a few of different lift options on my D2 w/ACE. Either OME lift option will go on fine with the ACE setup. However, when Installing the springs, I found it easier to just release the outside bolt of the radius arm/rear link and leaving the ACE downlink connected. You get plenty of drop to put the springs in. You might not even need to do that for the OME springs.

If you go 3" or over, you'll want to release the radius arm/rear link to get the spring in there. Also, you'll want to put a front ACE downlink in place of the rears. The stock rear downlinks are about 3" or so. The front down links are almost 7", so with a 3" + lift, the longer downlink in the rear helps put the ACE torsion bar back at an almost stock angle. With a good firmly valved shock, you'll be amazed at the handling. Works great.

Alternatively (to NOEE's plan),

If you have a jacking point for a Hi-lift:

Jack up side
remove wheel
use bottle jack in between axle and body to jack axle down
Limited by the brake lines only

This method gives enough room to put in the OME 3" lift without removing sway bars.

Paul-
So it sounds like ACE does not prohibit a lift then?

I've got the 3" OME lift from EE. I love the lift, but I've got regular sway bars and that limits my travel off-road.

As I understand it, ACE vehicles don't have regular sway bars. Also, ACE doesn't kick in until you're going a minimum speed. So off-road it would be like having no sway bars, and on-road it would handle better than a vehicle with sway bars.

Sounds like a pretty darn good setup to me. Go for it!

I have ace and SLS. the kit from rovertym for the sls comes with the litle bracket, but you can easily create yoru own for more or less lift. ACE doesnt effect liftin the truck at all. if anything it help becaue the swaybars are not one piece. I did however get front downlinks and install them on the rear. out $40 or so from discountbritishparts.com. definetly worth it.
