CB install question

Today I finally got around to installing a new antenna on my disco II today, I had a magnetic one that used to get knocked off when I went under a low branch. I cut one end off the cable and fed it through the rear door hid it all nice like. I got it to the CB pulled out the crimp connector that I had purchased and I can't seem to get a good fit.

I removed the outer jacket, trimmed the outer wires, stripped the sheath around the middle wire stuffed it up into the connector and crimped it. It seems to work but it just doesn't seem to fit all that well. I couldn't hear anything on the radio, the weather stations come in but they are kind of fuzzy.

Has anyone ever used one of these crimp connectors? If so how did you manage?

Thanks.

For my CB I didn't bother with crimp connectors, I got the solder type. They aren't that difficult to use. I used a propane torch to salder mine on.

It also makes a big difference with the quality of the coax...some is cheaper than others and do not make it easy to rebuild the ends.

I agree go with solder type....much better quality and fit.
