Satellite phone is nice, but I think my Yaesu FT-60R will blow away your T7100 FRS/GMRS units if only for the simple reason that the Yaesu HT can hit repeaters.

Koby,

Sorry man, sometimes I forget where I am and who I'm talking to.

Fat chance you'd find any repeaters in the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula!! For truck to truck my T7100 would work just as well as your 5x$ Yaesu.

Use an earbug headphone if you have a problem hearing the damn radio. After all, it's not the size that matters, it's how you use it and where you put it! :p

I'm in the f**king desert ... I'm in the f**king desert ... I'm in the f**king desert ... I'm in the f**king desert ... I'm in the f**king desert ... I'm in the f**king desert ... I'm in the f**king desert ... I'm in the f**king desert ... I'm in the f**king desert ... !!

"The poor guy asked about CB and got a lecture in ham!"

Oh come on- you should have predicted that... You've been here long enough to know how this place works. ;)

I know. Thing is EVERYTIME a cb question comes up, the ham radio is thrown in.
I don't need a ham radio to talk to someone 30 yards up the trail. It would be nice but then everybody else would need one too.
One day I may upgrade my cb to a ssb unit, but then again you have to be in a format that eveyone uses.
For now thats cb and frs/gmrs.

LOL, move your ass out of the desert!

I should also note that I prefer the use of mobile units with an external antenna when inside the truck, and a handheld unit when outside the truck.

I learned to appreciate this practice from Ho, who carries a handheld CB that is very useful.

Yeah, it should come as no surprise that yet again the discussion moves from CB to something nicer. It's like this:

If someone asks about Rancho shocks, invariably Bilstein shocks gets brought into the mix.

If someone asks about RTE springs, invariably OME gets brought into the mix.

If someone asks about CB, 2-meter amateur radio gets brought into the mix.

Why is this?

Because they're all UPgrades. Discoweb is a site about making your truck nicer. So expect discussions about things that make your truck nicer.

On a tangent, this thread is cracking me up. In my time on Discoweb I've slammed more than my share of losers here and invariably some guy comes out to say something like "why can't we just get along?"

Well, here we have a nice, civil discussion about radios in general, yet someone finds a reason to bitch about it. I guess it is true that people will complain about anything.

Apex, if you do go with a cb and don't mount a microwave communication tower to your disco, I've got an SWR meter. Bring your truck up here for a run sometime and we'll tune it real quick.

Cool man. I'll keep that in mind. It is nice to have options - hand held vs. CB

I tried getting a GRMS license last year and all I can remember is the FCC website being so damn convoluted I gave up on it. Maybe I'm just a retard. Is there a fee involved or not?

I don't exactly think of OME springs as an upgrade to RTE. Great shocks though.

Yes, there is a fee involved with a GMRS license.
