Under the technical section of this site there is a description for the installation of a solenoid actuated CDL. However, the write-up doesn't include a description on what year of vehicle it will work on. Looks like a great setup. Does anyone have any experience with this setup?

I would appreciate more information and details regarding the "electronic" CDL installation, how well it works, personal experiences with it, affects on lifted vehicle, etc. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

J.

Jayson,
I had the electric solonoid conversion installed on my 99D2 and think it is great, never had any problems.
There are mechanical kits out there but having installed this I would never change.
Have you checked to make sure your truck has CDL?
Did you know thatyou can activate the CDL to either work with the ETC or by it self?

He thanks Mike! I don't know much about any of that. I just read somewhere that the 2001s might have the CDL nipple, but not positive. I haven't checked. Not even sure how to go about checking at this point. Aside from removing center console cover. I really liked the electronic versiou vs. manual. Especially how on this site they connected through a stock looking button.

What do you mean about using CDL with or w/o traction control? Never heard that. Tell me more.....

To check for CDL, crawl under the truck and look up on the drivers side of the t/case, near the linkage and you should see a knipple that is part of the shifter to engage the CDL. You might also check out the tech. section I think you will find some more info and possibly a picture.
Depending on when you turn on the CDL, you can fool the ECU and either use the ETC or shut it off. So far I always use it and I am aware of times when you may not want it.
Let me know if you find the CDK knipple.

I use the AMV unit on my '01. It is a motor driven unit that mounts right on top of the nipple. VERY well made kit, it has been through all kinds of conditions including many water crossings, and never a problem.

They send a switch assembly that replaces the coin drawer or ash tray. It looks so factory that my local LR dealer has already installed a couple after they saw mine.

I think the cut off for transfer cases that had the CDL nipple was 3/01, but you really need to just crawl under on and feel on top of the CD to see if you feel a small protrusion on top.

I believe I've been looking at the wrong thing everytime I've been under my truck.. I have an 01 and thought I didnt have it.. while coming from under my truck from the front, on my back.. picture i'm right under the front axel, drivers side is to my left, passenger to my right, rear is towards my head, front is my feet.. where exactly should I be looking? From what I remember, I was looking a little bit to the back right and found something that looking like the pictures [3 nuts], but nipple-less.

If you've got the CDL nipple, there is only one choice:

Ryan,
Look up in the area of the t/case linkage, about half way up the case more towards the back half of the t/cases length.

Bob, it ain't cheap, but it's by far the nicest setup I've had in my Disco, and I speak from experience.

I've had a D1 linkage, GBR solenoid, and now have the 2004 CDL setup in my truck. Guess which one I'm keeping?

All D1s have CDL screw with lever
D2s 1999-early 2001 have the CDL screw. No lever.
From late 2001 to 2003 they have no CDL screw and require a new transfer case to lock the CDL.
2004 models have CDL scew and lever.
