Ready to take apart your center console and rebuild that baby? Your only other choice is to keep lubing, jiggling, shaking, tapping....

Rebuilding the cdl is pretty easy.

Center Diff Lock

My 97' SE was unable to shift out of the diff-lock, turns out the shift linkage from the transfercase to the CDL lever was seized stiff (linkage is vulnerable to elements in extreme conditions ie: deep snow, mud). It was only after I lowered the transfercase that I was able to dissassemble the linkage refit and make that unsettling yellow light dissappear.

If you already got the console off, pulling the linkage of the truck is way easy. Undo the four bolts surrounding the housing of the shift lever. Not the four smaller ones on the top of the stop plate. Pull the clips that secure the Hi/Lo link and the Lock/Unlock link to the lever with a pair of needle nose. Work the assembly off the transfer case, being careful to grab the plastic bore reducers in the linkage pivot points. Clean the assembly and then secure in a bench vise. You can then proceed to use what ever means you see fit to break the lever loose. Wether that be complete disassembly and cleaning or breaking loose with a hammer and drift. When you have the lever traveling to all four surfaces of the shift stop plate on top of the housing freely, clean and reinstall on transfer case. Lubricate the mechanism before reassembling the console. I would recommend a good marine grade grease for the task. Lock unlock, lock unlock use it or lose it. Good Luck.

Here is some very good info on stuck CDL's http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/efe4/images/rover/difflock/discodifflock.htm

I know when I got mine unstuck, I made sure I spent a good 30 minutes lubing and working it till it was a nice smooth action, then I filled the empty areas full of grease and made sure I lubed all the external parts very well.

That has been 20k miles ago with no issue (of course I still use it regularly)
