"Clunk" when going from Park to Reverse

Can any DII owners out there tell me if this sound is normal. It is like a linkage type clunk when going from Park to Reverse. I don't get to drive the Disco everyday but this is the first time I have noticed it. It doesn't do it when you go from Drive into reverse though.
Any comments would be appreciated.

If you are indeed on a slope, there is a way to prevent the clunk.

1. Put foot on brake, shift to neutral, keep foot on brake
2. Pull parking brake
3. take foot off brake, let vehicle settle
4. shift to park

My 95 D1 does the same thing. I have noticed though, that it will shift smoothly first thing in the morning when everything is cold. I don't know if maybe the fluid is thicker because of the cold or what, that is just what I have noticed.

It does it when parked on level ground. I don't drive it all the time but I think I would have noticed it before. I know Rovers have a reputation for being "clunkers" but this seems to have just started. The car was hot though and usually when I drive it I start it up after sitting overnight.

That's what I do at school (parking lot slopes down hill) and it works fine. Takes the strain off of things.

It is abso-freaking-lutely NORMAL.
I've been clunking for years!

DI, DII ... RR, Defender ... they all go clunk!

At least all the ones I've had, and all the ones my buddies have had, do!

I agree, totally normal.... but... I get this funky clicking in the transmission if out wheelin' and I'm stopped on a slope at oh say 15 to 20 degrees and pull the parking brake and then put in park and as I let off the brakes and the vehicle settles (about 2 inches)...click, click, click, click. (real fast though) I grind my teeth thinking my trans is tearing up.

Is that normal?
