crank pully key

when I pulled my crank pully the key fell in, I tryed installing a new key and that one fell in too. Has anyone been able to fish there crank key out. can I leave the key there. Do I have to pull the front cover. I screwed up didn't I. Thanks Bill

Buy one of those magnet on a flexible/extendible rod things and fish it out.

Then when you have done that, refit a key and use loctite retaining compound to keep it in. If the key is worn and loose in the keyway you need to either fit a new crank or make a special wider key.
