Crossbars

What length crossbar is MINIMUM for Thule or Yakima when mounting them to the factory rack? I am not going to use the extra tall gutter mounts. I would like a little over-hang, but I just need to know the minimum length - thanks.

The distance between the outside tops of my Yakama 1A towers on my D2 is 56.25".

i have thule 58" bars on both cars -- i like the overhang on the sides. i think that the thule web page states 50" bars as the minimum for both D1 & D2. www.thule.com
