its insurance and other people, probally not car companies think it would be a lot easier maybe cheaper to make simple cars with no crumplke zones air bags and seat belts. You all can vote and voice your opinion to your elected officials if you really were upset you would be rallying people in washington or your state capital. me fuck I dont care either way I have my defender and I am keeping it. I am glad they dont import defenders anymore and I hope they will never try too

Haha I guess the way it is now, you're sitting on a gold mine.

They try to make you wear seatbelts because OTHER people don't want to pay to feed you through a tube for 10 years until they pull the plug on you. I'm all for not making people wear helmets on cycles, belts in cars- just don't give me the bill if they get way more messed up in an otherwise minor accident.

Thought some might find this interesting- in 2002 LR contemplated bringing in CKD (completely knocked down) 110s to the States- in essence, all brand new body panels, drivetrain, chassis, etc. They were to be sold through LR dealers as "kit cars" and assembled by trained shops. Importing them as CKDs removed the obstacle of needing front passenger/driver airbags. There was a 2002 LR CKD shown at the SEMA show that year.

LR squashed the idea when an editor of some magazine (can't recall which one) asked them how they felt "skirting federal regulations to increase market share". The resulting brouhaha caused cessation of the project...

Anyhow, I doubt that any Defender LR would bring to the US in the years to come would resemble the original, so I think your investment's safe, Garland.

Until it's legal to import 110s in 2 years, 90s in 3- then watch that bottom fall out!
