hi, just bought a 95 discovery. it only came with one key and no remote. was a remote an option or did they all come with one? I'm wondering if I can just buy a remote, get it programmed, and be on my way.

Thanks!

Clutch Miester...

I have a 95 Disco that came with two 2 button remotes. These are strickly a lock and unlock remote. There is no security system on my rig. One button has the "lock" embossed on it, the other is blank.

My remote does not require any programming. Runs strictly on an FCC issued frequency I think. Anyone with the same freq can unlock my doors.

Here is what is on the case:

Outside

LUCAS 3TXB KEY
FCC ID: KHH 3TXB
IC: RSS/CNR210
CANADA 1984 101 540

Inside

Case
<PA 66>

PC Board
RFM
PI239
APKJ7

Hope some of this helps,

Mine doesn't have one, or at elast when I bought it I didn't get a remote with it and I have no interest in getting one. Personally I am of the opinion that keyless remotes are a theft enabler. Drop your keys in the parking lot, leave them on the counter in a store, and all someone has to do is walk around the parking lot pushing the button until they hear your horn beep or your doors unlock.
I'm still able to turn a key in a door lock, so I'll do it the old fashioned way. :p

sounds like you live in a nice neighborhood tom. I bet if i dropped my keys 999/1000 would take them into the store around here. And then there is the odds of me dropping the keys divided by the number of times i have to unlock the drives side door with the key before opening the passenger door for my girlfriend in the howling cold. it all adds up to paranoia. :p

strange that you're using a two button remote on a 95. My 95 has a single button remote... and as far as I know they all require programming. I've never heard of any car company just using a particular freq to open any door on that freq.

I was told that the 94s and 95s had single button remotes and that they had to be programmed...the older ones I think you can do yourself, but newer ones must be taken to the dealership.

Sometimes I wish I had one....it's a pain when my hands are full with stuff and I have to go first to the drivers door to unlock. Made that mistake when I first bought it...unlocked the rear door with the key first and the alarm started blaring! :)

Yeah, maybe I'd think differently if I had someone to open the passenger door for. LOL

I also just bought a '95 disco, and it didn't come with remotes. It does have the factory alarm which turns itself on automatically when the doors are locked with the key outside the door. As I've found out, the '94-'95 Disco needs the 1 button remote. The two button remotes are for the '96 and newer. The button locks and unlocks, that's it. It doesn't have a panic button feature, though it does activate and deactivate the alarm. Locking and unlocking the doors is what controls the alarm. I bought a used remote off E-bay for about $30.

They can easily be "programmed" yourself. There are instuctions on this website in the tech section on how to do this. You begin with the hood open and someone holding down the hood pin switch. Then you turn the ignition on then off, lock and unlock the doors, release the hood switch, then turn the ignition on and off again, all within 8 seconds. Then the horn honks, then the LED light on the dash turns on and you hold the remote button down to program it. Sounds goofy, but it works. That's all the dealership does.

The trickiest part for me was memorizing the directions because 8 seconds wasn't enough time for me to look at the next step, do it, look at the instructions again for the next step, do it, etc....
