Hi,
I am planning on buying a 1998 Disco, or range rover, I will be using it for heavy off roading(mudding, not rock crawling) can anybody help me decide. Which one is better offroad? Onroad? Which one has better gas mileage?Which is more comfortable? An does the Range rover really have hyraulics/air suspension stock like I've heard ? Thanks

disco less electronics, tons of aftermarket parts and used stuff avalible, more nimble offroad than p38a, spare tire is a a bastard with oversize tires on p38a rr, no problomatic air suspention to replace in a disco, depending on engine in the rr it might be more powerful, but gas mileage will suck in all of them.

disco is the jack of all trades and even master of some.

One problem with the Land Rovers is that they have a "Big Ass". This shouldn't be so much of a concern for you if you are going to be using it for muddin'. One problem is that they don't have a ton of horsepower. Either one. One thing you will want to research is the cost of building one up. I'm sure for the mud you will want around a 33" tire, which requires about a 3" lift. There are other ways of getting larger tires on, like a body lift, but anyway you look at it, it'll get pretty expensive. Also with the larger tires you will definately need a set of gears to get them spinning. If money is not much of a concern, then I say "Go for the Discovery".
