Double Cardan or Wide Angle?

Have any of you seen a failed double cardin stock D2 shaft? I am wondering about the failure mode.

It seems that if the forward-most u-joint in the DC fails then the H-section [the "main" double-cardan component] would try to fling [~pivot 90° from its operating angle] centrifugally outward.. causing UFIO syndrome [Unstoppable Force -- Immovable Object] with anything it encounters [anything, in this case, being an aluminum gearbox].

Wow, that is about what I was thinking.

It seems that could be eliminated by placing the DC forward, on the axle end. I know this would mean more mass out there but.. so what :p. Separately, a flat steel plate could be installed as a guard next to the tranny. Of course keeping the joints lubed would solve most of this problem. :)

Anyways... Got it: no cheapo sweaters up near the wagon's dangly bits!
