I've had quite a bit of work done recently on the EAS system on our '01 HSE. However, when comparing this system to my '95 LWB, this newer vehicle seems to do a lot more correcting of height under normal driving conditions.

The vehicle seems to correct the height even when hitting a bump in the road. Almost as if there is no averaging or hysteresis of the height sensor --- after hitting a dip or bump, the system corrects the height, then corrects again. It's not doing this constantly, but does occur on every drive. You can feel the height change during a standard to highway or back, but this dip/bump correction makes enough of a change that it can be felt. This happens anywhere from low speeds up to highway speeds.

The system will even correct the front to rear height during hard braking or under acceleration, although this makes more sense than the dip/bump correction.

Does this seem normal?? Am I being picky?? It has almost made me queazy a few times due to all the movement, but I am getting used to it.

Thanks!
Jason.

Hey Jason

i just got my 01 P38 last week so i dont have lots of experience with it yet... in any event i cant really tell when EAS changes from "normal" to "Hwy" mode while driving. But the one thing that i did notices is that if i come to a stop (on the freeway when in traffic or at a stop sign) and i let off the brake, you can tell its "adjusting its self"

not sure if this is the same sensaiton your feeling though

Yep, pretty much the same sensation when coming to a stop. It seems somewhat logical since the nose may dive a bit and the EAS decides to correct for this. Then a short time later realizes it's not level anymore and corrects again.

I can definitely feel it change positions from Normal to Hwy and back again.

How many miles are on your '01?? I'm at 38k.

Jason.

EAS Doesn't adjust when brakes are applied

The reason for this is the wheel Base has to change a little as the EAS corrects or changes the ride height of the frame and body. That is why the parking brake is on the rear of the transfercase so it will lower when you set the entry exit mode which allows the tires to roll away from each other abit. If the brakes are applied the wheels can't roll to allow the sweep of the radius arms to shorten or lengthen the wheel base. The corrdination is all taken care of throught the EAS, BeCM and ABS microprocessors. The operation of the EAS in the Workshop manual is good reading if you like understanding the higher technical features the P38A's have.

The system does adjust constantly when the doors are all closed and the brake is not depressed.

I may have noticed it more in the earlier days of mine, but I'm used to it now.
