I'm having no luck in getting the EFI light to go off. I've pulled the battery cables to reset it and it went off for a few hours, but is now back on again. What triggers the EFI light?

Hi,

from what I remember the light responds to 1) lamda sonds 2) Air mass meter 3) throttle pos. sensor and something I forgot.

In my case its been a lambda sond.
Best way to prove is to follow the procedure as in the workshop manual or Haynes - Repair manual. Basically you have to disconnect the multiplug from the Ecu (under the passenger seat) and test some voltages and Ohms.

good luck, hendrik

BTW, to do the measurements with a multimeter is easy.
I pushed the passenger seat as far back as possible (it?s no electric seat, maybe that made access easier). Then you can loosen two bolts that tie down the ecu. Then you can pull the ecu with the big plug and connected cables out to the footwell area. Quite comfortable to work there.
(all that IS necessary unless you are prepared to change all the possible items by trial and error).

Good luck.

(with all that wrestling with the multiplug I had one of the cables shoes unseated in it (funny enough it was one I hadn`t touched). When I reconnected the multiplug to the ecu it was completely pushed back by the pin of the Ecu it was supposed to slide on. ... Prevented my V8 from starting).

Thanks for all help. When I get time, I'll run some diagnostics with a multi-meter. Is the Haynes manual accurate regarding these diagnostic tests?
