Just got back from Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe - fun drive up 89. We didn't go off to any 4x4 trails, but the scenery at Emerald Bay is A+!!! I've been here many times on a boat, but this was the first time seeing the spot from up above - just as beautiful, a must-see if you get to travel in the West Coast!
You can stop few hundred yards past Vista Point: parking is very limited, but you can try making your own spot There's a steep gravel trail, about a mile long, that lets you hike down to the shore and see the Vikingsholm (historic Swedish home), have a small picnic on the beach, and just chill in the woods. (stupid camera died before we got to the shore... so no pics from down below )
