midland powertrain 2.5L V6. It has variable valve timing, variable length intake runners, four camshafts and with ALL that fancy dandy technology only makes 172HP. :(

Same basic engine setup powered the Acura Legend and the V6 versions of late model MG's.

Thank you for the info. As long as it is not a Ford powered engine, am happy.

Nah, it's Brit and I think Honda had a little input on the design... It's Chinese now though, Midland Powertrain is part of Rover which was bought up by the Chinese.

The Callaway guy I talked to said it was "capable" of 410. Maybe they cranked the boost to get the high number, then went for a lower number for longevity. They wouldn't comment about how much it cost or how they modified the computer other than it was significant.

I haven't done any changes on the pipe. Just added a K&N drop in filter and no effect on Rice speeder bowl eater like me. Thinking about taking off the engine cover (black plastic) and get a K&N cold air intake system or aftermarket.
You keep me wondering, since the Chinese bought the engine, is the engine being used to power the new Chinese import car?
FL keeps me wondering.

The deal was fairly recent, so I don't think they are tooled up to produce anything in China yet. I'm sure that engine will surface in other vehicles- it's a good engine, just suffered some silly issues when L.R. started using it. They worked great in the Acura Legend.

The cold air intakes etc usually don't do squat, other than make noise. Many of them take in hotter air than stock- which takes 100% of its air through the fender well, which is insulated from the engine compartment. I dunno if I'd mess with it unless you just feel like tossing some cash away.

Maybe he was talking about something else. I haven't seen anything else about them getting that much power out of that engine - it seems highly unlikely to me, but that's just me.

The ones in the Freelander weren't made in China- but China now owns the tooling etc for those engines. BMW doesn't make transmissions, it's a Jatco (Japanese) that's often found in BMW and Japanese cars. Not sure why you think Acura (Honda) motors suck as they get old- I know of about a half dozen Acuras with 250,000 on the clock and still going. Freelander engines won't last that long...

The only thing I don't like about the Freelander engine is the damn VIS motors that always fail on me.

My engine did wierd stuff at over 7400 miles on the odometer. My wife would start the engine and revs up and down and not stepping on the gas. I did listen to it during one weekend and yes, it revs by itself and I let it do its quirks. Went to normal idle sound but the SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT came on. HMMM. Got me thinking, How far my FL engine would last before it fades. Again, if it won't last long, what engine is a good sub? Oh yes, since its on warranty, Land Rover Miramar fixed the FL.

The Callaway was a show special that was talk but no action......and was crushed......the 2.5 v6 was from the Sterling 825 (first gen Legend)
