Basically -

I'd like to get some Tom Wood's driveshafts made up for a 110 hybrid project I'm doing... a D110/Cummins 4BT/NV4500/Land Cruiser case job that I'm half into. The engine to T-case is assembled and sitting in the frame right now with a newly fabbed crossmember and some sweet mounts. Springs are stock, though I'll probably put in some heavy duty front springs for the added 400 - 500 lbs of the diesel, tranny, and a winch.

So here's the question: I don't have the original driveshafts. The suspension is the stock three link, and the front pumpkin points about 5 degrees ABOVE pointing directly at the T case output yoke. The T-case yoke sits at about a 0 degree (pure horizontal) angle. This combination of angles makes a conventional single U-joint shaft impractical, since the vibes wouldn't properly cancel due to the asymmetric angles. My inclination would be to use a double cardon on the T-case end and a U joint on the pumpkin, but this only works with no vibes if the pumpkin ALWAYS points right at the T-case through the whole range of suspension flex. The way mine is sitting its CLOSE, but should still vibrate just a bit because its about 5 degrees off. When I looked at a NAS D110 for sale once a few months ago, I noticed that it had a conventional single U-joint shaft with the two joints about 30 degrees out of phase instead of the typical 90 degrees. As I looked at the setup (and I'm an engineer), I *couldn't* figure out how this could possibly work without vibration... but it might work in concert with the center diff or a flex coupling in the drivetrain to minimize the effect.

Anywhoo, I'd just like someone to tell me how the factory front driveshaft was setup on a 93' D110 (non-NAS). In some pics of a disco front shaft I saw that it had a a CV joint; on the D110 I saw there was no CV joint. Could someone with a nicely running D110 tell me what they are running, what joints, and how they are phased relative to one another? Did the factory setup have a rubber donut/flex coupling incorporated? Anyone running a single CV setup? Anyone running a double CV setup?

Help much appreciated. One of these days when I get this beast together I'll start posting some pics up...
