I have a TJM T15 front bumper. I want to install recovery points on it. Any suggestions as to where exactly on the bumper I should install them? I wanted to install shackles as opposed to just hooks.

You might want to check out a thread that I started when I got my T15, it is here .

Basically from what I gathered: You can't mount anything directly to the bumper since its not strong enough.

Way to go: Mount the winch tray, and put Tow Hooks on them.

I have yet to try it though, i'll probably do it sometime in the next couple weeks.

rmuller is right, it is not recommended to install directly to the T-15 bumper. I fabricated a bracket that slips into the "T" slot. Works well and doesn't mess up the bumper.

Putting a fabricated bracket into the "T" slot is basically the same as mountinng recovery points to the bumper. You are still pulling on the bumper and not directly from the frame. You don't want to recover from a TJM airbag-compliant bumper. Get the winch tray and mount your points there.

Thanks alot for the input, so basically I have to spend about $150 to add a recovery point. It doesn't make sense why there isn't one built into the bumper?

Unfortunately it seems like that is the safest route to go.. I was also suprised to learn this after I put the bumper on.. It seems like people have been able to recover using the bar itself, but there seems like there have been incidents where they destroyed it..

$150? I thought using CURT towhooks on the winch basket was the way to go? The towhooks are only $15 at EE. $30 total for two if the winch tray is wide enough for two.

Well, you eventually are going to want the winch tray anyway, right?

vinman-as far as the hooks go, EE sells the type with a clip that locks what ever you put in there in place. Seems like a good system, and pretty low profile too.

The most important reason not to pull from the blade on an air bag bumper is that the mount brackets are not strong enough. They are designed to have a little give in the case of an impact, which also can allow for deformation if you pull on them. The winch basket is mounted to the frame and thus avoids this problem. The other option is to weld solid the crush points on the mount brackets, but then you still have the problem of deforming the blade.

While I am not a huge fan of hooks, EE's recovery hook solution for the TJM bumper seems to me to be the best solution thus far.
