From what I can piece together from the photos I have seen on the 'net this looks like it might be a pretty place to take the girlfriend to see some foliage, and not too difficult to get to for my still-stock disco... is this the case?

If so, would anybody be kind enough to provide some directions from I-81?

You'll have no problems getting there. This time of year it is very pretty up there.
Real close is Reddish Knob which has a great view also. Nice area. E-mail me if you'de like more info.

On a somewhat related note, just got back from Merchant's with some brand new 255/70/16 BFG all terrains. Now I REALLY can't wait to get off of the pavement, and even driving around on the street I finally feel like the rover looks the part of a true rover.

I'm often in Charlottesville and live in Harrisonburg. We hit the trails fairly often if you'd like to tag along. Some good trails around for locals.
