Our next event is on Memorial Day Weekend at Fort Fisher SRA on Saturday May 29, 2004

It is off to the BEACH! Please join us on our trip by meeting us at the visitors center at 9:00 am!

The event at Ft. Fisher will be a Gymkhana. Some silly rover based games, etc.
? Blind driving course
? English Gate
? Passenger Hockey
? Changing sparkplugs in a 2.5 head
? Slow Race

I have managed to snatch up a couple of prizes, simple stuff, jacket and tee shirt. Hopefully some thing else will come through. Use the link below to get all of the details.

New info about Fort Fisher SRA

(Fort Fisher - January 26, 2004) - Fort Fisher will close at sunset instead of remaining open 24 hours a day, and some people worry that the change will cause problems for a portion of Carolina Beach.

The Fort Fisher State Recreation Area will shorten its hours and charge to drive on its four-mile-long driving beach beginning Sunday.

Drivers will have to pay 40 dollars for a season permit or ten dollars for a day. The beach also will close its gates from around sunset to 8 a-m.

A spokesman for the Division of Parks and Recreation says the changes are an attempt to protect an environmentally sensitive area that's home to the endangered loggerhead sea turtle and the piping plover shorebird.

The unintended consequence could be felt on the north end of Carolina Beach, where a convoy of four-wheel-drive vehicles turn the narrow, two-mile spit into a parking lot.

Aaron,

Yep, bring your own chow. I'm looking forward to it.

Paul,
Fort Fisher State Recreation Area is located in New Hanover County five miles south of Carolina Beach.

From Jville take 17 south to Wilmington.

Turn left on to 421

Follow US 421 through the towns of Carolina Beach and Kure Beach.

Turn left into the state recreation area on Loggerhead Road. Parking and the visitor's center are to the left.

If you hit the ferry, you went to far :)

Dan pretty much summed it up. It is about 15-20 min from the Naked King Fish restaurant. Just a chance to drive out on the beach. Would be a good trip to bring the family down for. I am sure that your baby would have fun at the beach.

Pugsly they used to allow camping at the Fort Fisher section, but now the park closes at dark. The northend of the beach is still open 24hrs and camping is allowed there. It is about 10 minutes from the fort fisher site.
