i need to put a new alternator in my 97 and my friends cant find the tension coil...help please

Tension coil? Do you mean the serpentine belt Tensioner?

I know on my '97, you remove the top of the fan housing (two clips, one on each side) then you can very easily see the belt and the tensioner.

My '96 is the same way, remove the upper fan shroud and the tensioner is right there. I used a big pry bar/screw driver and was able to jam it between the tensioner and pull hard and bingo you have all kinds of slop in the belt to remove it. Ron

P.S. remember or make a diagram of how the belt routes around stuff in case if falls off of something and you don't remember how it goes. Take it from me, after an hour of frustration because I was soooo macho, I did not need to do this. Ron
