Sorry to be a newb with this, I've searched for a good answer, but I want to use these as safely as possible until I have the $$$ for a bumper/winch. Since that option is not in my budget right now I installed the jate rings for the time being.

Is the best way by distributing the pull between the two? I've read a bridle would work and I read about a choker being used. What do you more experienced guys have to say about recovery equipment and these?

Too many variables to say that "one way" is the right way to use them. It depends on your situation, but they are plenty safe to use without the use of a bridle or putting a strap through two of them.
If you want to take a tree strap and loop it through both jates and then to a D ring out front, that would certainly work.
But if you are using a kenetic rope or strap to do a pull to favor one side, then using one jate would work as well.
You don't have to have an after market bumper to have safe recovery points. What you have are good, but they can be a pain when you start getting into mud and water.

x2.

Depending on where you go, sticking your head and arms into some real smelly and foul mud to root around to find that ring can make you wish you did have a recovery point of the bumper.

Been there
put a tree strap on then wheel err then you don't have to get nasty
I would not do this if you have no way to tie the strap. The rear is not as big a deal..

Could you elaborate some on this? I was looking at my stock RRC bumper just yesterday and was wondering if there was a way to put recovery points on it.
Would it be possible, strong & safe to mount a couple shackle mounting brackets with backing plates? Like these perhaps... https://www.expeditionexchange.com/smb/

No.

On your first attempted recovery your bumper will be completely ripped off, or the backing plates will tear through the bumper.

Horrible idea.

I have a Hidden wich mount from DAP , and I mounted a Dixon Bate on it.

Mount 130 and DB 65.

Just an option if you care to consider :victory:

Make sure the strap is long enough so that the angle between the strap at the D-ring is less than 90 degrees. Otherwise, you're putting a "side-load" on the D-ring, and they aren't rated at the same strength that way.

The Jate's bolt replaces a stock bumper bolt at the front. Get two Jate rings

At the rear remove use a Receiver shackle bracket.

Alternatively someone may still make front end receivers for RRCs/D1s with Class three receiver. Thats another good solution
