I posted this in my old thread but am getting desperate for a response and since this is a new issue I'm going to start a new thread.

replacing some bad front bearings. Its torn apart but as you can see the inner piece of the inner bearing is still on the stub axle and unfortunatly it seems like it wants to stay there.

Any advice on how I can get it off, it really seems to be stuck.

Thanks.

I hate to say it, but I would be you're looking at a new hub assembly, I believe that is way to far gone to salvage.

shit, by new 'hub assembly' you mean new stub axle right? Not doubting you but just from that pic how can you tell how bad it is, it looks to me like if I could just get it off I might be able to polish up where it was stuck. Sorry, I'm a bit slow sometimes.....

Split the inner race with a chisel and fix the surface after

I second that.

Edit:

After you get it off and if the stub is trashed even after cleaning it, then get a new stub axle.

any particular strategy for doing this??? I've been out there pounding on it with a good strong chisel and a 3lb sledge and am getting nowhere fast......

Take a dremel tool to cut a groove across the race, then wedge the chisel in the groove and beat it with a sledge. The sharper is the "V" of the groove, the more stress you can exert to start a crack.

Actually groove it on both sides if its being stubborn....

alas, no dremel tool over here. Worth going to buy one or is it more than likely gonna be trashed by the time I get it off anyway??

A generic high-speed grinder only costs about $30 - and no, it won't get trashed by the time you're done with it. Cut-off bits cost something about $8 per 50-pack, you're going to break one or two, then get hang of it and maybe do it all without much banging.

I concur...dremel or air mini grinder and cold chisel, then dress up the area where the area was sitting....Its a Landrover....

On my big axles you can buy a sleeve/shim for damaged axles, don't know if such a thing is available to slip over a damaged axle on these little trucks. Might check around.
