I would ignore anything/everything SafariGard had to say about mounting them - following their instructions cost me a trip to Moab.

At the very least, use the long bolts that go all the way through the door sills, with larger fender washers on the other side.
I am a much more careful driver now with SG sliders than I was with plastic stuff.

You won't have to remove the doors in order to install the Safari Gard (or most other) sliders, however. That is only necessary when you mount the RoverTym Heavy Duty sliders with the extra mounting point that gets attached in the door pillar.

Backing plate

Use the bolt through method Peter described except use a backing plate across the whole length of the inside of the sill. I think I used 3/16", 4" wide by 48" long and cut it to fit. My truck has landed on them with no ill effects. Use caution though when you install this way and are tightening down the bolts, you can crush the sill if you wrench it down too tight.
