Lake Arrowhead trail?????????????

Looking for a good trail in Lake Arrowhead area. Nothing too serious, moderate difficulty with water crossings or a view. Just looking for a short day trip while up at the lake for a few days. Maybe have a picnic or something.

We will be staying in Blue Jay on the south side of the lake.

Thanks,

Joe

Joe, the last significant water crossing in SBD mountains has been given a bridge (Deep Creek). SOL.
Trails aplenty, any degree of difficulty. Get the SBD mountains map.
Holcomb Creek (3N93) ends (or starts?) near Running Springs, about 15 minutes' drive from Blue Jay. If you start it in Running Springs, creek crossing will be at the other end of the trail. However, you'll be greeted with an uphill "rock garden," right at the trailhead.

Call ahead...

Check with the ranger station in Lake Arrowhead first. As far as I know, all trails west of Big Bear are closed to anything motorized, and have been since the Old Fire. Bad news, I know, but there are great trails near Big Bear!

Christopher,

I have driven through Holcomb Creek this year. Can't be that ALL trails west of Big Bear are closed. 3N16 was wide open as well. RR04 had people on 3N93 and Deep Creek.
Am I missing something?

Hmmm. Maybe they've left some of the gates open. The last time I checked - about a month ago - I still couldn't get to Deep Creek from the Lake Arrowhead side. Officially, nothing motorized is allowed west of some point between Green Valley Lake and Big Bear. Unofficially, I've seen tracks when I've been out hiking, so there must be a way in.

Planning to check it out soon

I'd like to go check it out soon. I live in the mountains and haven't been out and about since before the fires, wasn't sure what's open and what's not. I'm anxious to try out my first LR, a '98 Disco I :)
