You only get invites to those if you buy a Land Rover from that dealer. One way for land rover to exclude us real off roaders! One down side to land rover in my opinion.

That doesn't appear to be true, I didn't buy my LR from them...

You must buy your parts from them or service it there or they wouldn't have your mailing address. Anyway, I was told buy my local dealer that their events could not be attended by land rover owners unless you bought from them. The first 98' I bought new I bought from them and went to several of the events but since then I sold that D1 and bought another from a private sale. Since then I have been excluded from the events for the reason mentioned. And the events are fun but they are more social events rather than off roading ventures. See how many other people get invited that didn't buy from them and that will answer the question.

Yeah, I bought my pre-owned 99 from them in 2001. I haven't seen an invite.

But the invites may only go to new car buyers.

I've only had my RR serviced there (under warranty), so no money at all has changed hands. They didn't mail me the invite, it was in the RR when I picked it up from them fixing the clogged condensate drain lines last week.

Just a quick word about invited LR events.
I am the owner of a 2000 D2 and a 2002 Freelander. Both of which I purchased new from LR Charlotte. Having been the previous owner of a used D1 I was an experienced off roader who decided to take the plunge and buy 2 new Rover products. The dealership promised that buying a new LR would offer more benefits then I had ever experienced. YEAH RIGHT!
Land rover events? .. What are they? They said to expect at least one event a month. I have been a new owner for 4 years now and not a single event. . . EVER!
On the other hand LR Greenville regularly plans and or attends events, for the most part all are invited, that is the way it should be. I mean really, who cares if the vehicle was purchased from the dealership. . . it is a land rover. . . period.

MTNHDWR,

FWIW, LR Charlotte is *supposed* to put on an event every quarter instead of every month. They have stopped going to The Uwharries since too many rigs get banged up and then its a big hassle to get it all straightened out. I just about had LR Charlotte lined up to go wheelin' up at Richland Gap but that kinda fell through.

The Uwharries shouldn't be too bad since it is so dry.

Also, in terms of dealer events, look on EE. They have pics up from a couple of dealership runs. As Pugsly described, it looks like a very well catered event. Oh, and Pugsly, I urge you to show up in your 110. Everyone loves LWB :) .

P.S. MTNHDWR, we need to go wheelin' sometime since I am back in Charlotte for the summer. And that goes for all the other Charlotte rovers as well!

Right now I'm planning on doing the LRCary Uwarrie day over the British Car Day South in Salisbury. Just got the AC fixed and new radiator installed, so I want to give it a try on the trails.

May change my mind come Sunday and decide to do the car show instead, but that's my current thinking.

Sounds good. Are you aware of the CROC message board? We plan trips all the time, you should check it out. :D

We joined up with the Land Rover Cary folks for the trip out to Uwharrie on Sunday.

It was great weather - cool and overcast, with just enough rain to keep the dust down.

Mostly stock Disco-IIs, one built-up Disco-II, a couple of Freelanders, one Disco-I, and we were the only Defender. As much as it pains me to admit (and I realize it may be a bit heretical here on the board to say this), the Freelanders (particularly the SWB) actually performed surprisingly well on the trails. They had a tendency to stick one wheel in the air, but the traction control worked well and kept them moving.

We had a good time. Spent most of the morning / afternoon running trails, then around 4pm finished up with the main group. 5 vehicles stayed to finish up the day by running Daniel (all Disco IIs and our Defender).

It was a good day of light 4-wheeling. Always fun to go out with some folks for their first-time. I had a new radiator in the Defender (overheating problem) and wanted to see how it was going to perform, so this provided a good test - lots of slow trail work, perfect for overheating the engine (it did just fine, new radiator looks good so far).

Pugsly,

Glad you had fun! I assume from your report that the trails aren't too bad up there. I am going this Saturday for the work day. I am happy to finally get back out on the trails. Last time I went wheelin' was December!

Oh, the British Car Show was pretty good. By unanimous vote, the 109 won its class :D (I was the only rover there!). Tons and tons of MGs, Austin Healeys, Jags, and quite a few Rolles Royces. It was fun even though it rained but the back of the rover worked good as a makeshift tent. Many people there thought it was the best car in the show  . I was surpised to see some Lotii (pural for Lotus) present. An older Espirit, a Elan+2, and a Europa. All, of course in prestine condition.

MTNHDWR, yes, I am on the CROC BBS. I am ALWAYS trying to get peoples interested in wheelin' but few reply. So far it seems as though I am the only Rover that is going to the work day. I hate it when I am the only one showing up  . But I go hang out with the Toyota crowd. Good peoples. I hope another rover shows up.
