Hello All,
LONG Time follower of Disco Web, but really haven't had a need to post until now...because most of my problems have been solved by the "Search" Function. That is until now..and it's really to narrow down a path to fixing the issue. Looked at the other post here and there are a lot of good solutions, but I don't want to start throwing money when It can be as easy as rolling a break ratchet or replacing a break line. Yes, I downloaded the Bodsys Break Bible- wish i would of found this sooner.
Symptoms: Noticed a gradual shudder/shake, could smell a slight burnt "rubber" when stopped. Left Rear Break area was significantly warmer than any other wheel well. Drove Home with no issues (shakes), wheel well was cool. Gathered up Tools, and drove back out to try to get it to repeat the problem. It took 3 days before it did it again, and took it home immediately to inspect the Breaks. Pulled out the Break Pads, Pulled the Left Rear Break Caliper. Everything was Cleaned and inspected. Break Piston Moved (took more force than my D1), no abnormal debris that I noticed. Actuated the E-Break, no abnormal noise, no Alerts. Put everything back together Drove a 10 mile loops with no issues...as of now.
I have not pulled off the Rotor to inspect the Parking Break Shoe yet. The B.B.B and the Web talk about doing the bedding procedure when you replace the Shoes or Rotors. Is this the still the case for pulling a rotor for Parking Break Shoe inspection? I didn't see a spot for routine inspections.
Is there any test to verify its the Caliper Dragging the Break(s) other than the symptoms its showing.
If its the Shoes, I feel like backing off the Break Ratchet behind the rotor- Until I can afford to do everything (Shoes/Rotors/Breakline) Because thats what it looks like this ends up being after reading most of the posts.
Is there any other test/troubleshooting you all recommend. Other than burnt rubber from the shoe, whats the Red flag on the Shoe that it needs to be replaced or adjusted? How often does the shoe need adjusting if it is this issue? (Other than replacing New Materials).
Thanks!
