LR3 AT tires

I missed the boat, but I thought I would post this for others that might be looking for an AT tire in the LR3 stock size. General has come out with the Grabber AT2 in a 255/60VR19 with a 112H service class. Previously they only had the 255/55s in a 109T for the D2 HSEs. This might be a good option for folks with overly fussy stealerships insisting on the stock size. I went with Dunlop ST8000s, which have worked out well wheeling sand and on-road in slushy snow so far, but I would have definitely gone for the AT2s if they were available.

Best,

Erik

Another (my) dealer approved option is the H-Speed rated Yoko A/T-S 265/60-18 LI110. I had my dealer research these tires to ensure they meet the approved minimum spec's, which I could not find for LRNA. According to my dealer the A/T-S and the AT2's are the only AT tires they will approve (i.e., warranty compliant) for the LR3 (H-speed, =/>110LI, w/in 2% of OE diameter). I like the fact that they only weigh 41lbs too.

So anyone using other tires for off road use has effectively voided their warrenty on the entire vehicle?????:ack:

Not necessarily- it just might be a little more of an uphill battle. There are TONS of people on this board that have put bigger tires on their LR3. I got the "well, it will mess up the ETC, the speedo, blah, blah, blah..." I have seen posts (I don't remember whether it was DWeb, LRO, MO, etc.) where a few people said that they had the dealer mount 265s or 285s, so it just might be a policy specific to my dealer.

Since it's pretty much a daily driver most of the time, and my idea of off roading is pretty tame compared to most of the folks on this board, we ended up going with the Dunlops. Since they will probably wear out in another 30K, I'll keep drooling over toothier ATs

Erik

Exactly. I bought the Yokos from the dealer so that if the wheel bearings went out they could not blame it on my slightily larger and heavier tires. I've owned track prepared Miata's and a WRX, so I have too much experience with arguing with dealer's that my mods could not have caused whatever OE part to fail.

The A/T-S looks like it has a nice beefy sidewall too! :applause:

Have had the A/T-S's on for about a week. I expected them to have better hydro-plane resistance, which they do; but they are also markedly quieter, smoother-absorbing bumps and imperfections, and seem to have better wet grip than the Wranglers. The steering also feels lighter. I want to get about 1k miles on them before I speak too wet/dry grip. Same with an off-pavement report which will not happen until January. I'll try them on the same route I just had the LR3 with the Wranglers on, see attached. The picture is taken at halfway-up, both facing West-duh, and then East.

The lugs do seem to clear mud very fast, however.

If that's the view out your back window....:banghead:

Guess I need to keep playing the lotto.

I manage the property for my family. It is a non-income producing cattle ranch that has been in the family for 130 years. Its beauty and uniqueness are cherished, but I know our days as the stewards of the land are coming to an end. So, I'm appreciating the property as much as I can, and buying lotto tickets to feed lawyers and fend off vultures.
