LR3 Owner's thoughts

You asked for an owners review, so here it goes...

First of all, we owned a 2000 DII from new so keep that in mind. We loved the Disco and it was the first car I have had that I was hesitant in getting rid of. I seriously contimplated keeping it as well as getting the LR3, but financially it was not the best idea. I actually do go off road quite a bit, but mostly at the farm and do very little trail riding, so off road performance is a must for me, but I want to stay stock the Rover is our trip car, and a daily driver.

As of today, we have about 2,500 miles on the truck and have done everything from a 1,200 mile vacation to a Land Rover "Wheels" event to a off roading at the farm. I can honestly say, I love this car. On the interstate, the LR3 is smooth as silk. The ride is fantastic and the engine is in another class from the DII. Off road, is also very nice. At first I was worried about the trickery of the LR3, but I feel pretty confident of it now after what I have done with the truck and I have taken in stickier spots that I ever took the DII. It is also very nice as I got the Heavy Duty package that comes with the rear locker.

Interior - absolutely love the 3rd row seating. I'm 6'5" and would not mind riding in the back for short distances. At 6' it would be very comfortable. Only thing I miss is the side storage cubbies in the non 3rd row DII. The way the seats fold flat is fantastic by the way.

Exterior - I admit the styling is not as distinctive as the DI or DII, but personally I like it. Our biggest complaint initially was the rear door, but after using it, we like it, but don't prefer it.

One other item that is not discussed much is the turning radius. What an improvement, for both off and on road.

My only complaint is very minor, but rather irritating. No satellite radio. I have become a major Sirus junky and it drives me nuts that it is not an option in the LR3.

All in all it is a fantastic vehicle and I have not regrets. If you are on the line on whether to get one, do not hestitate.

congrats on your lr3! it's as if they made the lr3 just fo you.

i think the horizontal opening rear door is functionally a good thing. the door on our disco can be awkward, even dangerous on inclines. we had some impromptu tail gate parties in our old range rover which i miss.

at the sf auto show, i couldn't figure out if the rear moon roofs opened up at all on the lr3. i also couldn't believe how many cup holders it had.
