I'm sure most you got one from your local LR dealer... If you've been to one, is it worth wasting 2 hours?? This one does not include a test drive, but wine and cheese are on the menu, lol

My wife, son & I spent a few hours at the VA Beach LR Saturday. The one LR3 they had was out on a test drive and they had 5 D2's and two Freelanders on the lot and no new range rovers. They had an 04 Range Rover lease trade in with 6000 miles for sale for 78K. I have to admit, this dealership has been great to me. I bought my 99 D1 at this store and although I never brought it in for service, ( Do all my own work ) the sales team and service manager are good friends and they like having my truck in the lot especially when muddy. Anyway, We asked to look at the Range rover, they through us the keys and a plate and said take it out. So we did. The Range Rover is far too expensive for my blood but, I gotta say, it has some real get up and go. It was really impressive to step on the gas at a light in VA Beach traffic and walk away from traffic. With the trans in D the BMW V8 spins up to 5800 RPM and shifts into the next gear and does it al over again. I found that intoxicating. Had the sticker price been in the 40's I would really consider this car as a next Rover. Got back to the dealer and parked the Range Rover when the explorer Err I mean LR3 pulled in from a salesman assisted test drive. We walked up to look at it and again, they gave us the keys. I must say, I was not impressed. For one, I think the styling is way off and has few LR cues. The feel of the car ( notice I said car ) is very car like and the claimed ground clearance is about what my ground clearance is under my diffs but, in this case, the clearance is variable. As the car compresses on bumps, the clearance reduces. It has dual exhaust pipes running under the rear suspension just asking to be flattened by the ground. Lets face it, forget the off road for this car. It's a yuppy keep up with the other mall crawlers car all the way and has some electronic gismos to make the yuppy driver think it's capable enough to make it up his driveway no mater had bad that snow flurry is and that's all. The only viable LR left is the Range Rover and it's far too expensive to drive through brush when new.

I guess I have just become one of those LR guys who think true land rovers ended with the D1 much like the guys I run into on the trail that tell me real land rovers have leaf springs.
