Hi All.
I'm about to undertake a two and a half week extened trip crossing a fairly major desert. I'm going to have to be self-sufficient for at least 6-7 days of travel with no access to any supplies whatsoever.
What I'm interested in are people's ideas for storage solutions for the back of the Disco 2 given I'm going to be packing up every day. I currently have 40 litre Engel, 4 boxes for foodstuffs, one big box for kitchen equipement, and enough containers for 55 litres of water and 60 litres of diesel, plus camping gear to be stored in the car. The back seats will be folded up and I have fit all this gear in my car before.
I'm on the lookout for new ideas - genius ideas, on what kind of boxes to pack things in (stackable, indestructible, etc..), and how to lay it out.

Bring on the replies!

It won't help you, but I've found that 4 conticos (see pic) fit perfectly in the back with the seats up. You can do another full layer on top of that, but it would be better if the loadspace cover weren't there. This works really well for us -- we just pack clothes, the kids' toys, whatever else into conticos (they're about $6 at costco) and load 'em up. Makes loading and unloading easy too.

How about sill tanks for your fuel, space enough for two 40L tanks giving you more space insde the vehicle and keeping the C of G low instead of packing stuff on the roof

Thanks...all good replies.

I like the idea of sil tanks and it is something I will have to look into at a future date.
At this stage I'll be storing the jerry cans of diesel on the floor of the right rear passenger side of the car (seats removed for the trip) so there'll be no fuel on the roof and the centre of gravity is kept reasonably low.
