Anyone ever tried Mastercraft tires? They are made by Cooper(?).

My husband is looking at their Courser C/T....like the Discoverer S/T. They would be for our RRC which gets driven about 5000 miles a year at most.

Thanks in advance for suggestions/input.

Mastercraft

I have a set of the Courser Traction on my Series IIa. It's my daily driver and they have held up well for last year or two. They have been good on numerous off pavement excursions as well. Can't tell you miles though, my odometer stopped.

The Black RaRo on the main page is wearing a new set of those. I have used them alot over the years and they are what they are. They wear decent and are decent road tires.

Thanks Kyle. Would you say they are better or worse than a Dunlop? He can get the Dunlop M/Ts for the same price.....

Also, do you know what size those are? He's running stock suspension now, but wants to get something that will work if he goes up 2-3" later. We are afraid 245/75 will rub the fenders....

I dont really care for Dunlop myself so I would say they are better. They make an MT that is a pretty cool looking tires these days as well... I put the 265s on that Black Ra Ro but its lifted a few inches .

One my best friends has the 7.50- 16 Courser Traction LTs on his '96 Disco. He preaches the Mastercraft; he loves them. I have seen them on a lot of different surfaces, highway, snow, rain, real mud, real rock, and I must admit they performed pretty well on each, especially for the price per tire.

I have been using the Courser LT's for nearly eight years on my 1960 Series II and I am on my forth set. I get about 40 - 45, 000 miles out of each set. New they are 32.20 inches tall. and have an eight ply side wall. They are crossply, which means they could have some problems with heat for longer distances at higher speeds.

Some folks I know who have used them on later model Land Rovers, liked the traction, but did say they tended to slip laterally more than other tires when in really wet conditions off road. I have never experienced that, but it seems fair to mention. I also know that for quite a while, Rovers North was recommending the Courser line of steel belted.

Good luck.
