Melting Steering Wheel

Has anyone else had a problem with the steering wheel melting?

I know it gets hot here in the Mojave Desert but I would think that a steering wheel should not melt.
The top of the steering wheel looks like aligator skin now, and you can actually see where the rubber has runs in it.

I have seen A LOT of LR3's that have the melted steering wheel. They can't build a vehicle without having some stupid problem like this. We keep sunscreens in ours when not in the garage and put 20% tint on the front windows. We will see if that keeps ours nice...

Dan, you are correct, the dealer did replace it, only took about 30 minutes.

The other thing that they fixed and was also covered under warrenty was the steering noises I heard off-road. Their fix was to remove the branches and the rodent.

Or "rodent issues" was how they worded it.

What was in there?

Don't know, I didn't ask. I was scared he would bring me the peices of what was left. And I'll put that on the list with "Obese Naked Women on Mopeds"

Things I just don't want to see.

I have been using the Maguire leather care wipes and it helps to cure the leather issues on the wheel. Mine was peeling (melting) pretty badly, and due to high mileage, it's off warranty and can't get it on extended. With the leather care wipes, it has really made a huge difference.
