Once you locked the center diff in 4High, do you have to unlock the center diff before shifting into 4Low?

Or I should say once you have shifted into 4Low with locked center diff, can you shift from 4Low locked center diff to 4High locked center diff position and then shift back into 4High unlocked center diff mode?

If you can, then the knob can go in "circles"?

This is confusing me. A few times the center diff stayed in locked mode even when the shift knob is in an unlock mode until I went over a bump, then it unlock itself...

CDL and the Hi/Lo gears are independent, so the shifter can 'go in circles'. Sometimes, when unlocking the center diff, if you are moving forward, the splines will not disengage right away(indicated by the CDL light still lit). Like you said, going over a bump will disengage them or simply slowing down, reversing, etc will also work.
