Mounting tire on the hood? LR3

Has anyone ever though of taping off the hood where a blackout kit may go and painting some underbody coating on it and then possibly mounting a tire on the hood? I think it would look pretty bad ass. I have two spare rims and tires and need another place to put one. I keep them both in the rear hatch now but one would be good there on the hood and maybe another on the roof rack (when I get i) Whats everyone think? Give me some ideas.

first off, welcome to the board.. I'm excited to see what you're doing with your LR3.

Throw a tire up there first to see how you like it (and take pics and post them here!).. the disadvantages of a hood mounted tire is the diminished visibility and also the extra weight up there will make the hood difficult to open. I know some people have tried it on a disco, but decided against it because of those factors.

keep in mind on a Series Rover where this originated, there actually is a dished out area for the tire to sit lower and add stability.

on my 109 you can have 2 spares - one on the bonnet and one on the rear door.

I have the dished area and all the hardware for the bonnet, yet, only use the mount on the rear door exactly for the reasons stated:

Weight - lifting the hood is a real pain

Visibility - even with only a 235 wide tire and the dish, it reduced line of sight which I really noticed off-highway driving

Yeah, it looks cool, yet, the drawbacks swayed me.

Of course like assholes, everyone has their opinion.

Yea never mind about the tire on the hood idea. I tried it last night. It looks pretty sweet from the outside but obstructs the view of both the passenger and driver way too much to be safe.
