My sister needs to ditch her Audi S4 because of a need for more hauling capacity - i went with her today to look at a new 07 Tahoe but now i'm trying to convince her to look at the LR3 as well. It doesn't have as much cargo area but its similar in price. Her main concern with the LR3 is reliablity and service costs. She has seen me shell out a lot of money to service my D2 over the years so she is hesitant to purchase a rover. What has the reliability been like and the average service costs? Did they work out any bugs for the 07? Any input from owners would be appreciated, thanks.

If she can stay under the mileage restrictions, a lease has zero cost for upkeep, and she can dump the depreciation on the dealer at the end of the term.

07 Tahoe? If she's used to an Audi, she'll need more than a tall glass of water and a few crackers to swallow a Chevy. People form decidedly different impressions of the person who says, "I have a Tahoe" vs the person who says, "I drive a Land Rover". Not that one is bad and one is good, but in my opinion, one does sound better. :)

Oh, and I don't own an LR3, but I do have one right now as a loaner. Wife loves it, but it ain't going to happen.

The lease deals on an LR3 are amazing... the only way to have one in my opinion. The newer ones are much better. Service costs will be nil if you lease, and it's usually a very short term... 24 months. They are very nice, very comfortable, and she'll be much happier in an LR3 if she's coming from an Audi than she would be in a Tahoe.

There are no maintence costs if you buy or lease an LR3, because it's all under warrenty, even the oil changes. I think the cargo space is very similar to the Tahoe, and the LR3 is FAR easier to park and navigate than the Tahoe, and feels lighter on it's feet, so to speak. The LR3 will stay squeak free longer than the Tahoe.

The one big adjustment is that she will need to see the dealer more often than perhaps other cars, but it's at no cost and they give a loaner or a rental. The reason to see the dealer is to get the various fixes and patches and services that a high tech ride like this needs.

Plus the stereo is way better in the LR3 :)

Though in the Tahoe's favor, they are giving you free gas for what, a year? That's a pretty good savings. The LR3 is 14 mpg on average

Thanks for the responses - she is test driving one next week and i think she's already convinced - i think she is going to sell her S4 privately, get the cash and then lease the LR3 - makes the most sense, i agree. I'll let you know what happens - hopefully another rover in the fam.
