Need Help on installation of rear lamp guards for D1

Hello,

I am sure this was on the old board, but I need any ideas on the installation of rear lamp guards for a D1. The only hardware I have are the guards and the rubber mounts. No other attachement hardware. Are there parts that would replace the threaded bushings that mount to the body? This seems to be the hardest part to find a replacement for.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Joseph

You'll need some sort of rivet nut setup. A hole will have to be drilled and then a rivet nut will have to be placed and set to mount the lamp guard opposite of the rubber-mount side. A machine bolt can then be placed for the single rivet nut hole. To secure the rubber strip side, either secure it with adhesive tape found at an automotive place (Home Depot stuff isn't strong enough, it'll come off) to secure trim molding. Or get industrial velcro - the stuff that has plastic teeth on both sides.

I'm not sure where you'll find rivet nuts, but if you look at www.expeditionexchange.com you'll see a writeup on how to setup a rivet nut tool by looking at the tech section on the Discovery ladder install. Good luck.

I was just thinking, there is a possibility that you can put a standard nut at the back side with a big washer. Since you can access the lamp bulbs, there might be a way you can snake your hand back there and get a standard nut and washer rather then a rivet nut. The hole for the lamp guards isn't that far off from the lamps themselves so it shouldn't be too much work.
