There is this "clunk" that my disco now makes when you shift it out of Park into either Drive or Reverse.... what is that

There is also a "clunk" that comes from the area under the center console, that comes when you are driving and you are slowing down almost stoped but it happens before a complete stop also happens in traffic.

They sound like they could be the same thing is that right and if so what is it. Please let me know post or email me. I just want to catch the prob before it's too late!

thanks

Normal noise. They all clunk. To reduce clunk (a little) Take vehicle out of drive or reverse a moment before you come to a halt. This reduces the free play in the system. Also is the rubber donut at the rear diff cracked? this allows some freeplay. Easy fix replace the donut.

I am having a very similar problem, the only difference is that mine makes the loud clunk when you make a left , or reverse with the steering to the right, and the clunk comes from (I think ) the left front wheel and is not all the time... I hope that you find the origin of ypours, ( and when you do, would you let me know? at least I'll know where to look too... :) ) thanks, I'll start another thread just in case

There are clunks and there are clunks. It could be normal one from play in driveline, or it can be sign of A-frame balljoint snuffing it, or it can be loose bolts, or suspension bushings worn..or it can be something as horrific as CV-joint.... Its kind of hard to diagnose without actually listening it from side, b/c Discovery got lovely way ot making noise appear from totally different place... :)

In general - check your bolts on radius arms, check bushings, check how tight bolts on them shocks. try to at least isolate it from rear or front - by asking someone to listen from outside while you driving truck...
