Welcome Patrick and congrats on your DII...it's probably a good idea that you meet up and possibly join the Texas Rovers group. You'll meet some great people who are great at lending a helping hand (or tool) when needed. www.texasrovers.org

hey patrick

Just a heads up.. dont be too scared! There are a couple things you have to remember about these forums, first off.. most of the people here take their rigs offroading, which will of course put more wear and tear on the vehicles.. another thing that you have to realize is that this is a technical forum for problems about the car. For everytime someone lists a problem, there are still a 1000 other members who are not experiencing that problem.

As for your disco, enjoy it! Don't get overly concerned about it breaking down.. read through these forums to gain some insight on preventitive maintenance, and then if the time does come when you do break something.. come back here and i'm sure someone will be able to help you fix it!

Take care!

Ryan is right, don't get too scared. Turns out nobody ever posts:

"Hey guys, just wanted to let you know the Disco started up fine and I drove to work this morning, no CELs or warning lights. Have a good day!"

People are usually only going to post when something has gone wrong and they need help.

As a start, I'd suggest:
1. Buy the RAVE CD on ebay (around $10-$15).
2. Find a good mechanic (or start learning).
3. Explore the possibility of buying an extended warranty.
4. Keep up on your maintenance.

I'd really encourage you to look into #3. I get nervous with cars out of warranty...especially this one.

Good luck.

Congrats on the New family member. I hope that all goes well, I own a '97 Disco I and have had very little issues with mine. Most of the issues I have had have been self induced or lack of upkeep by the previous owners.

Don't be too worried about the Disco...it has made it threw the first 4 years without someone shooting it, the odds are it will run fine.

$15 for a RAVE CD is ridiculous - I'll make a copy of any version I have (including the last one - v19) for $5.

I suggest you pay the guys at North Texas Rover a visit. Allen and Justin are on the top of my list when it comes to helping me with my 2000 Disco. Thier website is www.northtexasrover.com. They are off of 635 and Luna. If your warranty is out they are the best place to go for service by far.

I'm here in Dallas too.

I've dropped the short block in my 2000 DII so if you have questions about that shoot me an email.

Enjoy the warm glow of the "Service Engine Soon" light eminating from your dash. ;)

Congrats on the new purchase. Remember that, as expensive as it is right now, regular service will save you immensely in the long run. Oh, and use your ears to listen for problems. :)

Enjoy your new purchase.

Thanks!

Thanks for the input! I'll definitely have to check out the texas rover club and that shop off 635 and luna.
