I'm told that there will be no 2006 Freelander in North America. Dealers will run off the stock they have and wait for the replacement to arrive

from what I have been seeing and reading, the revised one will be based on the Volvo XC which is larger than the current Freelander. also have seen the 3-door "convertible" will be dropped.

guess it makes sense to just wait for the new version as the current ones aren't selling that well anyhow.

The death of MG/Rover killed the availability of engines for the current Freelanders, so they stopped production. Has nothing to do with poor sales as the Freelander is still a hot commodity everywhere other than the USA.

Has anyone seen a spy photo of the new freelander? Will it still be a small v6, or are the volvo engines (TURBO) different? Are they coming back in mid 06 as an 07? Or are all bets still being taken.

I've seen the design sketches etc and it looks kinda good- still has Rover styling cues etc. As far as what powerplants, I've heard all kinds of strange stuff- nobody seems to know for sure though.

I guess production stopped a few weeks ago as my dealer told me and I just figured that it was because of the new LR2 from what I briefly read in the weeks prior
