Does anyone know if it takes a special tool to check the oil pressure? I dropped my car off at a shop to have it done and now they are telling me it takes a special tool for a Land Rover.

Thanks much!

There is a port just above the oil filter that you can tap into to test the pressure. Why are you concerned about your oil; pressure?

Knock-knock

Hey Mike, I took it to the shop to help me diagnose an engine noise that I've been having for a bit. I wanted them to check the oil pressure so I can rule out the noise due to oil starvation/bad oil pump, but the tards are telling me they can't check it with the standard mechanic grade oil pressure gauge. Trying to figure out what size fitting it takes so that they can get it done.

I should have taken it to a British shop. Pooey! lol

What year is you truck and how many miles do you have on it??
How often do you change the oil and do you use any additives?

Finally!

The shop was finally able to get my oil pressure checked. It reads 20 at idle and 50 with rpms. Of course, my engine noise is only at idle too, so 20 seems kinda low. Anyone know what it SHOULD read at an idle?

Mike, I change fluids @ 2-3k intervals normally. 97 4.0. This noise developed after my 1st oil change as the new owner in April. I've changed oil 4 times since then trying to find something that would help thinking maybe the oil was too thin. I've been told lifters but this is pretty noisy to be lifters IMHO and nothing has even been able to quiet them slighty, but I'm not experienced with the various engine noises so my vote doesn't really count.

I'll repost a new thread with the specifics/history of this noise and see if anyone here can offer some suggestions.

Thanks mucho,
Jen

Jen,
It might be a good idea to do a couple of engine flushes over the next couple of oil changes.
You can buy qt. containers of engine flush from your parts store, put it in and let the truck idle for 10 or 15 minutes before changing, it's easy.
Who's oil filter are you using? Here again you might try a 3001 K&N filter.
The other thought is, you might have a plugged up oil pick up tube, this is not at all uncommon and easy to fix.
20/50 for oil pressure is OK.
