Finally made time to take a day trip with ORE group last weekend. Covered about 120 miles in just under 10 hours. All kinds of terrain: mud, snow, and ice on one side of the mountatin, nothing but rocks, sand, and dust on the other! Plenty of really cool washes to drive through: I think we've spent a good hour or two driving is some twisties. Driving back at night in snow/mud was a little crazy with minimal visibility and very poor traction, but luckily didn't get stuck once, TC was on the entire time though! Still waiting for the night pics from the guide, but here a few shots:

Here's a Kodak moment of the day: this guy came out of one of the old mines were checking out. Tiny!

The Lou!
Beautiful!`

My word you folks have some beautiful country out West! I'm getting a little bored with all this flatland in Florida. :p Love the Kodak moment, too!

Hey I did the ORE thing about 6-7 yrs ago... my girlfreind (at the time, now wife) bought it for a gift for me after we bought our DI

it was a great trip... informative for the "off road newbie".

i remember seeing that SAME ol school bus :D

i also remember doing a run call "Prozac ridge/run" did you guys do that one? apparently it has a different name but got renamed to "Prozac ridge" after one of Michaels students freaked out looking at it :D

Wife bought me this trip as one of my Christmas gifts too (she's cool like that, just got me new tires and a lift, lol). Anyways, not sure if we went on that trail or not, my CB was shit, so I've missed 90% of what the guide was telling us about the trails. This turned out to be quite a bit more that a beginner trip, and we all agreed half through our way back that we've got a lot more that we've bargained for. This was my first 4x4 at night in really bad conditions, so I guess I got my money's worth :) We did hit a few "oooh-shit!" hills, but nothing too extreme. If nothing else, it was good to learn that the skinny pedal is a lot more useful sometimes than the fat one, when your instincts tell you otherwise. If not for the guide's instructions to gun it not matter what I thought "I wanted to do", I'd probably roll the truck at least once.

The infamous school bus. My sons love throwing rocks at it.

Mike's "Classes" are some class and a fun trips, too. I've been on several and always had a terrific time.

We went on Mike's Applegate-Lassen Trail trip last summer. About 185 miles off-road. The only civilized thing you cross is a set of railroad tracks in the middle of nowhere. We had a absoulute total blast.
